Our planet is 1/3 covered by oceans, which contain 97% of the Earth’s water. At Aldemar Resorts Group we recognize how important the oceans are both to the Hospitality Economy and to ecosystems as a whole, as they directly influence weather patterns, have extremely rich biodiversity and produce half of the planet’s oxygen, while absorbing 50 times more carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere.
World Oceans Day was established to raise awareness of the role of the oceans and the need to protect them. The Aldemar Resorts Group family is working daily through actions and policies to reduce waste, carbon emissions and to transition to alternatives to meet the needs of our facilities to provide our services in order to develop a sustainable Blue Economy.
Aldemar Resorts Group is “raising” a Blue Flag in 2022!
The institution of the Blue Flag is an internationally widespread and recognized ecological symbol, in which 53 countries from all over the world participate, with Greece being in second place among them, holding 14% of the total number of awarded coasts. The evaluations are carried out by beach managers, municipalities and hotels, who participate in the program on a voluntary basis. The awards are based on water quality and compliance with 33 other criteria relating to the beaches, including cleanliness, organization, information, the safety of bathers and visitors, protection of the natural wealth of the coast and coastal area and, finally, environmental awareness.
The people of the Aldemar Resorts Group, recognizing the importance of the Blue Flag institution and having as the main pillar of its actions the protection of the environment and the seas and the preservation of biodiversity and ecosystems, organize their actions in line with the necessary criteria regarding water quality, education and information on environmental issues, awareness of the community as well as the safety and proper management of the beaches.
Thus, this year, the Aldemar Resorts Group proudly raises the Blue Flag on the beach of Skafidia in the prefecture of Ilia, where the Olympian Village and Royal Olympian hotels are located, and on the beach of Aghios Georgios 1, in the prefecture of Heraklion, Crete, in the area of Hersonissos, where the Knossos Royal hotel is located, underlining the guarantees of the high quality of services offered on the coast, as well as the protection of the environment and public health.
