Aldemar Resorts is thrilled to announce our new collaboration with CorkCycle, a pioneering startup dedicated to recycling corks from the catering and hospitality industry. As part of this initiative, cork collection boxes have recently been placed in our Olympian Village resort.
About CorkCycle
CorkCycle’ mission is to help save tons of CO2 and contribute to our natural world by collecting millions corks for recycling and repurposing.
Why Cork Matters
Cork is a 100% natural raw material with unique properties that make it invaluable across various industries and applications. Here are some fascinating facts about cork:
• It takes 9 years for each cork oak to be ready for harvest.
• A cork tree can be harvested only between 15 and 18 times during its lifetime.
• A single cork stopper can absorb 562g of CO2.
• Recycling 1,000 cork stoppers can prevent approximately 400 kg of carbon emissions.
• Cork is 100% natural, 100% reusable, and 100% recyclable, with the ability to be recycled indefinitely.
The Problem
Every year, around 140 million cork stoppers end up in landfills in Greece. We're here to change that in collaboration with CorkCycle.
Our Commitment
At Aldemar Olympian Village, each time we open a bottle, a new journey begins for the cork. Recycled cork stoppers from our hotel do not end up in landfills. Instead, they are collected and repurposed into various applications such as:
• Insulation material for buildings
• Floorings for playgrounds
• Floor tiles
• Sport ground floorings
• Shoes
By supporting CorkCycle, we aim to contribute to a more sustainable future and reduce our environmental impact. Together, we can ensure that each cork finds a new purpose, benefiting both our planet and our communities.
Join us in making a difference, one cork at a time!
