Dr. Nikolaos Angelopoulos is appointed as Honorary Doctor of the University of Piraeus

On Thursday, April 25, 2024 at the Athanasios Kanellopoulos Amphitheater of the University of Piraeus, the Rector of the University of Piraeus, Professor Michael E. Sfakianakis, held the Announcing Ceremony of the President and CEO of the ALDEMAR Group Dr. Nikolaos Angelopoulos to an Honorary Doctorate of the Department of Tourism Studies of the School of Economics, Business and International Studies of the University of Piraeus.

 

 

The event started with speeches by the Rector of the University of Piraeus and the President of the Department of Tourism Studies, Professor Angelos Kotios, who then presented the work and personality of the honoree.
The Ceremony ended with the speech of Dr. Nikolaos Angelopoulos in which he spoke about the early stages of tourism in Greece, the contribution and importance of the sector to the Greek economy, the problems and challenges that tourism faces today, while he also focused on the complexity that characterizes the hotel management and thus the need for competent executives with knowledge and resources.

The Announcing Ceremony was honored with the presence of the Minister of State Mr. Makis Voridis, the Minister of Labor and Social Security Ms. Domna Michaelidou, the former Minister and Commissioner Mr. Stavros Dimas, the Former Commissioner, Minister and current Member of Parliament of Ilia Mr. Dimitris Avramopoulos, the Member of Parliament Mr. Michalis Katrinis, the Regional Governor of Crete Mr. Stavros Arnautakis and representatives of the Academic, Banking and Hotel industry.

 

 

Dr. Nikolaos Angelopoulos is well-known in the business and Tourism world as he was a pioneer in the development of Tourism in Greece and member of the founding team of the Hellenic Tourist Association of Business (S.E.T.E.) acting as President from 2008 until 2011.

He was the first to highlight Tourism for its multiplier effects on the national economy and on his points it was the first time that the Prime Minister of the country attended the General Assembly of SETE. During and until the end of his term, he contributed to the development and prevalence of SETE as the sole representative of all active Associations in the Tourism Sector and to its legislation as a Social Partner of the State.

Since 1989, he has been active in the creation of Luxury Hotel Facilities, while the Aldemar Resorts Group has been distinguished for its pioneering and multi-awarded Thalasso & Spa Centers.
